the answer you need will change according to the desktop environment you
use…so, please clue us–are you using:

KDE, Gnome, LXDE, Xfce, Unity or one the several

others ???

no, sorry i can’t help you i don’t use Gnome…
but, you can try looking in the menu (the lizard in left corner, top or
bottom) for something like “Configure Desktop” or “Personal Settings” or
something like that and see if you can’t find something with a name
kinda like ‘Themes’, or ‘Gnome Themes’ or ‘Windows Themes’ or ‘Windows
Appearance’ or…or maybe there is a manual you can read to learn how
to do this…maybe at doc.opensuse.org

by the way, these are the fora for openSUSE, not OpenSuSe…

don’t you wish your subject line included Gnome so those folks would
look in…

oh, and are you using Gnome2 or Gnome3? i guess the answer you seek will
surely be different depending on which version you are using.

Thanks, i dont know about Gnome2 or Gnome3, how can i find it?
and isn’t gnome better than KDE?
i know that gnome has more functions than kde
and what difference is between gnome2 and gnome3?
im new in OpenSuSe ))

If you have not installed gnome3 you have gnome2. IMO KDE is better but that is a matter of opinion.

Now you want a MS Windows theme, but then the question is what version of Windows. Windows 7 look much much different then XP or Win98.

In any case in personnel settings there sould be an option to change themes. Note that there may not be a “Windows” theme installed by default. So in that same section should be an option to install additional themes

I can provide more info on my problem. I have kde 4.6.5 and saw an interesting theme on kdelook.org that was called something like “steampunk.” It had been designed for kubuntu but had a modified version that was distro neutral. I tried both and got the same problem. The splash screen comes up but not the login screen, which remains the default install login screen.

I tried start->configure desktop->workspace appearance->splash screen->install new theme

As I would expect, it loaded only the splash screen, although it previewed the login screen.

I also tried start->configure desktop->login screen->theme->install new theme

That didn’t work. I mostly got the error telling me the file I was selecting was not a proper file. What am I supposed to use? the .tar file? the html inside the .tar? something else? I accidentally did the right thing once and it seemed to install, but still no login screen and I can’t repeat the steps for install.

what does your problem have to do with this thread?

your problem should be in its own thread with a descriptive subject!
