I wish I knew how to insert a jpeg. The image loader requires a URL pointing to a jpeg image and I don’t know how to do that. Basically, it is an announcement similar to the ones about openSuSE updates, except the link is to some spam site. I’d like to kill it.

based on the logo I am now paying attention to, it seems it is some sort of Chromium notification. Since I purge everything stored by Chromium on a near daily basis, it seems likely I’ll need to pester them about what’s going on, unless someone here already knows. Thank you!
Apparently, websites have the ability to send notifications. Yes, it is probably a “chromium” feature. I see it from “Opera”, which is Chromium-based.
Most of the time, what I see is sites requesting permission to send notifications. And I never agree. But I have one site that is sending notifications, and never asked me to agree. As it happens, I don’t mind the notifications from this particular site. But, of course, I only see them when I have a tab opened to the site.
I have not found a setting in “Opera” to disable this feature. And I don’t know whether there is a Plasma setting to disable the feature (or misfeature).
Directly to the left of the website’s URL is usually a padlock with a tooltip reading “View site information”.
Click on that and then “Site settings”
There you can choose to “Block” notifications.
I selected this from the midst of your post and think it is not an explanation of your problem, but rather a question on how you can use the forums.
You can go to https://susepaste.org/ and upload an image there (see the word Image at top-right).
After you did this, you could copy/paste the URL from the page as shown in the address bar of your browser (and not the URL of the image itself). Paste this using the Link button (the one with the globe) from the toolbar of the post editor.
More generally,
the “embed picture” link can point to a picture that’s publicly available anywhere on the Internet.
hcvv mentions one place you can post a picture.
You can post to your personal cloud storage and then configure the settings to make that picture “Public” instead of “Private.”
If you open a Github (or Gitlab or many similar sites) account, you can create your own free repository location and upload your picture to that location.
Personally, since I’ve created an openSUSE Wiki (see my signature at the end of this post), from that I can upload pictures to openSUSE.
Once you have your picture uploaded somewhere, insert the link to your picture in the “Embed picture” you’ve already found.
When I checked (following the guide by ravas in #3 above), I found several sites in my block list and three sites in my allow list.
It seems that when you see that request to allow notifications:
if you click “No” it goes to the block list;
if you click “Yes” it goes to the allow list;
if you just close the popup request without clicking either, then it does not go to any list.
The default for “chromium” (and “opera”) is to ask. And your yes/no response applies to all future visits to the site.
Of the three sites in my allow list, two are google sites and appear to he hard coded – they cannot be turned off. The other I must have allowed at some time. And I only get notifications when I have a tab open to that site. It does not need to be the active tab, and I think I still get notifications when the browser is minimized. So don’t be too generous in allowing notifications.
And, yes, it is connecting to the desktop notification system.
@nrickett I found that list, too. I did not see anything hard coded and I changed the domain to block. And it did notify even with no tabs open to that domain. Anyway, blocked and gone now. Thanks all!
RE: URL’s flickr and photos.google both let you put up photos, but neither make obvious the URL for the jpeg image. So, the susepaste.org is very useful information.
