I don’t know if this is the right place to ask (crossing fingers)!
Here is what i’d like to do. I’ve installed Gnome and KDE 3. I’d like to remove all traces of both DE so that i’d get a bare system to start a fresh new install of KDE4.
I know that I can do it through Yast, but would removing all graphical system impair the workings of Yast?
If I do it with zypper, how can I remove all thing Gnome and KDE and every related dependancies?
Yast should not need anything graphical to do most of its work…
certainly not the basic package management stuff. As proof pull up a
terminal (xterm if nothing else) and you should be just fine running
‘yast’ within there using the ncurses interface.
To remove them I’d use Yast: Software: Software Management. Switch to
Patterns (from package search) and deselect Gnome/KDE.
Good luck.

I managed to uninstall all of KDE3 and Gnome but it’s a tedious job to do! Wish there was a meta-package or a kind of script to launch such an operation.
