I have Suse 11 setup 99% to the way I like it and need it to run.
While I have this clean setup I would like to create a backup dvd of the
whole system.
I can do this from windows using nero but I would like to know if I can
do this from within Suse 11.
I am using KDE 4.04 and looked at K3b but there were no specific drive
backup tools.
I used a net install cd to download Suse 11 so I do not have a system
dvd. (BTW Suse- well done for using LZMA compression, it saved me so
much time! If only everyone else used it in the web for data, surfing and
everything data transfer related!! The tech would make a super fast
browser?)
Anyone have any suggestions ideas about creating a dvd?
Off topic: I have a Logitech Desktop Optical mouse that does not scroll
or function properly. I suspect it have something to do with Nvidia
drivers and the use of desktop enhancements.
The reason being that when I use Suse 11 in failsafe mode the mouse
works perfectly! I have been through the posts trying to edit xorg.conf
but with no joy. Any ideas on this one?
You can do this by using System Backup in YaST and then copying the file
to a DVD with K3b
BUT Linux is not Windows and most of your preferences are stored in
your /home folder.
So, unless you have been messing with files in /etc or are using mysql,
you only need to backup /home.
Assuming you have a separate partition for /home, if you did have a
disaster, you would probably find it quicker simply to reinstall
openSUSE on / than to try and unpack and copy the backup.
Even if you have been messing with files in /etc or elsewhere outside
/home, archiving those few somewhere on your /home backup would probably
be enough.
Remember that one reason why you haven’t found an obvious way to do
what you want to is because most Linux users don’t see a need for it.
Hi John,
That sounds resonable. Yes I do have separate partitions for my home
files. So not such a big deal to lose the system files. The net install
worked so well. I would happily use it again.
Thanks for your input.
