Hot CPU and fan extremely noisy....

using OpenSuse 13.2 on an HP 17.3" laptop with an AMD Turion™ 64 Mobile Technology ML-32 with 2GB of RAM, 80GB hard drive…cpu temperature is currently at 195.8F which keeps the fan constantly blowing quite loudly…anyone know of a way to look up what may be causing the excessive heat and a way to lower the fan noise?? Thanks!!

What desktop environment?

If KDE, press CTRL+ESC and and click on CPU to see what is consuming all the CPU time.

Is tracker running? The other option is to set the GPU power to low, I
have a systemd service for this.

You have checked that there is no dust wad between fan and heatsink cooling fins? Is cool’n’quiet (or similar) enabled in the BIOS?

haven’t checked for dust wads but I will…will also check the BIOS settings on next reboot…and yes I tried the above command under my ID and as root and it came back saying it wasn’t supported…thanks again!!
