Horrible Horrible Lag

Hey I’m using midnight commander. I open the directory home/downloads/php-5.2.8 and use the arrow keys on my
keyboard to scroll up and down the file but for some reason
when I try to do this I get the most terrible lag and it really isn’t even possible to accomplish anything in that directory with midnight commander because of this lag. So I wrote this post hoping you might tell me how to fix this problem. I don’t have any experience with programming or even with scripting so if you really want to help me tell exactly what I should do to fix this problem. I really am going to need php in the future so I have to first be able to scroll with midnight commander cause vi really isn’t the happening thing.

if you need php

zypper install php5

if you really want exactly php 5.2.8

zypper ar -r http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/server:/php/openSUSE_11.1/server:php.repo
zypper ref
zypper install php5

it says it’s already installed. But there is still horrible lag when i execute the php folder with midnight commander. how do fix this problem?

What are you trying to do with midnight commander specifically? I
assume you’re not in that directory just to move around in that
directory. Why not just use the shell to move around? ‘vi’ is dead…
‘vim’ is its replacement, but that tool is not made for browsing
directories either, but rather editing files, and there it is great.
Using PHP is not done with any of these tools, though (mc, bash, or
vi(m)) so it’s back to… what are you trying to do?

Good luck.

ok its prolly simple for you to solve but I kind of want you to tell me exactly what to do to fix this since I don’t want to reinstall a new operating system. I’m using mc right and for somereason a script in mc or something got triggered and makes me lag if when I use the (bar/mc cursor) but only in directories with applications that are running like I herd peaple hack using php files and stuff. well how do i stop mc from lagging when moving around in the php directory. I restarted my computer its still happening.
