Hooray for me

Well after 3 years of pretending, Window$ is finally gone. The decision was tough, I love my gaming. But I converted the SuSE box to XP so my wife can work from home. She needs MS Office and some dictation software.
So now I post from a rediculously spec’d linux machine.
CPU: AMD Phenom 9750 Quad
RAM: Kingston KHX 1066 x 4 GB (runnig at 800Mhz)
GPU: Asus EAH4850 1 GB DDR5
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-770FX

SuSE 11.1 rund like a dream. My game server and website are super quick.

Hooray SuSE!!

You can install MS Office with wine as you can see from the pic.
Maybe the other apps you need work with wine.
Enabling you to dump windoze

I’d love to achieve that. But the dictation software comes with a USB foot controller used to navigate the audio file as you type. For the life of me I cant get it to work with SuSE/OS media players or in a virtualized environment. In self defence, the lovely lady was very impatient as I trawled forums and the like to find a solution.

No doubt the time will come. The impetus may be M$'s expectation of another $200+ from me for Windows 7 in the near future.rotfl!

Not to hijack the thread but…Geoffro, what did you do to get Office 2007 to run in wine? Maybe I tried using too old a version of wine but the “richedit20 native, builtin” thing didn’t help one bit. I ran into trouble with MSVCR80.dll.

Any help would be appreciated, I’d like to run MSO 2007 as a proof-of-concept since my desktop is often the “proof” that this Linux thing is no joke.

What is the software in question ?
