HighPoint RocketRaid 2300

Hello,

I have a RocketRaid 2300 host adapter with 4 hard disk.
The OpenSuse 11.2 does not support this host adapter (the sata_mv module does not see my BIOS RAID1 configuration)
I downloaded from HighPoint Global Website the rr231x_0x-linux-src-v2.5-091022-1618.tar.gz source file.
I make a rr2310_00.ko module but I would like to had this module to the DVD install Opensuse 11.2.
I can I do this operation ?

A partial solution ?

sorry…i’m not sure i understand your question…

i think i understand the RocketRaid driver you reference works fine
with openSUSE 11.2 and your hardware…and you wish that driver had
been included in the install DVD…

is that correct?

if so, it is impossible to change the 11.2 DVD, but you can ask for
this new feature to be included with 11.3 here:
http://en.opensuse.org/Fate

and, i think you can learn how to package the driver for the openSUSE
repo’s here: http://forums.opensuse.org/opensuse-build-service-obs/

or, maybe get someone there to add it for you (i don’t really know how
that works)

if i misunderstood your question/problem, please try again…(jeg kan
godt forstå at det er ikke let at bruge et fremmedsprog)

The above URL has changed.
What is the correct URL now?

Has the situation for RockerRaid support improved in openSUSE 11.3?
Will it change in openSUSE 11.4?

according to the web site of RocketRAID there is support and has been
since a long time…since version 8.1, at least…

i think the OP wanted to see it work with a default install of
openSUSE…i guess that hasn’t and probably won’t happen…but, you
can check FATE and see if the other guy actually logged a request, and
if so how many votes it has gotten…

conversely, i think your best source of information about using
RocketRAID with openSUSE will come from the maker or users of
RocketRAID, rather than from the maker and users of openSUSE who may
have never heard of it before (like me)…so, i suggest you look here:

on the other hand you are very welcome to hang out around here and see
if any openSUSE user has the experience to help you…

Thanks for your helpful answers.
I have the impression that HighPoint (the maker of RocketRAID) is
not very friendly to Linux (I will complain now  ), e.g.
they do not provide up-to-date packages.

I checked FATE, but there is no entry for RocketRAID.

I have built the RocketRAID driver (kernel module rr2310_00.ko)
myself many times. It works o.k., but it is very inconvenient
to do this at the right time after each kernel update.
An OS upgrade will be even harder …
So I was hoping for some build repository …

maybe you would like to be openSUSE’s ‘official’ builder of the
RocketRAID driver for each new kernel…

i don’t know how it works, but i guess you could do that at the
openSUSE Build Service and direct the drivers from there to a repo…

this is, after all, a volunteer effort…and i can think of no one
better suited to support a product from a company “not very friendly
to Linux” than the few that will directly benefit from it…

as far as i know the Build Service could be used to build the driver
for several different distros…maybe HighPoint would reimburse you
for your efforts… (heh)
