Hiding .desktop extension on desktop

I’m running KDE 4.2 with a desktop folder on my desktop.

It all looks really nice having just changed from KDE 3.x

Is their anyway to remove the .desktop extensions from my desktop items.

e.g. On my desktop I have Shredder.desktop, trash.desktop, Documents.desktop etc

Is their anyway so that it just displays Documents, Shredder, Trash.

Right click on the folder view and select the first option under Folder View Settings.
