Hibernation

openSUSE was always the only distribution to reliably hibernate out tha box!
Then my tower would not resume from suspend reliably & currently never resumes from hibernation. Am I screwed?
I can list hardware specs if that matters, old style C2D G41M-COMBO mainboard.
Is there anything to do that could potentially move the needle on this? Maybe I’m niche keeping such an old rig going, but if it works & money’s tight…?

Do you find anything suspicious in the logs? Sometimes it is a misbehaving driver.

That idea is splendid!
Shed loads of these errors:

kernel PM: hibernation: Registered nosave memory: [mem 0x00000000-0x00000fff]

Faulty RAM? also

dolphin[2370] MEGASYNCOVERLAYPLUGIN: getOverlays </usr/share/icons/Numix-Circle/48/apps/gnome-session-hibernate.svg>: 9

Right clicked exit MEGAsync before hibernation, still failed to resume.

So hardware? Have ancient AMD card.

Memtest 86+ threw up zillions of errors. Ordered some Crucial RAM.

Although I did force multithreading. Best try a standard pass of Memtest 86+.

If all errors on CPU 0, is this indicative of a faulty core? I’ll try again with Microsoft memory test & also try known good memory when arrive in post. Been perusing the stress test Arch Wiki.

Hi
Another user with same issue… best compare notes

Sounds like a regression and maybe not hardware?

I have 300+ errors in RAM Memtest 86+ & not even left running at wall for full pass.

Try reseating the memory modules (i.e. unplug, then plug them in again – maybe some wiggling as you insert them, to be sure that there is a good electrical contact).

Thanks for suggestion, testing in single channel mode identified a rogue stick as bad. Thankfully not the main board (memory controller?) or CPU. But hibernation is still of the menu.

Just ran memtest… errors everywhere.
The BIOS memtest passed, guess I’ll just keep using hybrid sleep and not hibernating.
