The forums are an asynchronous communications platform - not a live chat. So there’s no reason for anyone to not respond - you’ll get a notification that there are messages waiting for you.
In Discourse, there are “Trust levels”. We had some old titles that resulted in ranks, and those got pulled in when we migrated platforms a few years ago. There’s no mechanism to update those titles in this platform - they were basically granted to people based on the amount of activity.
Understanding Discourse Trust Levels provides a basic overview of trust levels in this platform. Some of the things are different here, but the ideas are baked into the platform.

Open Chat threads normally don’t get closed. Any other forum category has an auto close machanism, which depends on the last reply. You can see it at the bottom of a thread.
