First of all, I am absolutely new to Linux. The reason why I am trying to install exactly openSUSE is because I need it for my COS class at uni.
The distribution is downloaded from the official website.
So, here’s the problem(s). As soon as I start to create the virtual machine in vmplayer, this kind of message appears : “Calling the YaST module ‘inst_autoinit’ has failed”, and beneath there are buttons like retry, skip and next.
And then there is this screen with installation settings, you all sure do know how it looks like. And beneath the partitioning section there’s an inscription “Nothing assigned as file root system. The installation is likely to fail fatally!”. Obviously, the installation fails, like, at ~70%.
So, can someone tell me what am I possibly doing wrong (or, chances are, I haven’t done smth. important maybe?)?
I’m in a strong need for help.
P.S. I WOULD add screenshots for your convenience, but I CAN’T( 'm not allowed).
From what you described, it seems you haven’t assigned a partition to the root volume (/). In the partitioning section did you have something similar to Figure 1.6 in the reference guide? As you can see, there is a partition for the root volume (sda2). If you are using Windows, the root volume is like your C: drive. Without it, your system is crippled.
I don’t know what means and what could cause the first problem you described: “Calling the YaST module ‘inst_autoinit’ has failed”. Someone else may help you with that.

It would be better to say which link exactly, as you are new and could
be mistaken about the correct link.

So, this is a virtualization question, and you should have asked on the
virtualization forum here >:-)

This the reason why this is a virtualization question. Vmware has a
feature right at the VM configuration start, to autoinstall the
operating system.
Just disable it, and start allover.

We just upload to susepaste.org and place the link here.
