My request is not with openSUSE directly, but all my computers are running Leap 15.3 and this forum has always been the single best place for support.
I’m wondering if there is anyone here who would be willing to help me set up a TP-Link Managed Switch. I’ve gone through the documentation and there seems to be several ways of doing what I want to do but I can’t figure out which to use. I’ll send my email address in a private message and describe exactly how I want to set this up. On your schedule!
I want to isolate several ports, the ones for my security system and security camera (two separate systems) from the rest of my network. They need internet access, but I don’t want them to have access to the rest of my system. I would be happy with only that functionality.
YES! I have a security system here that allows the monitoring company to access the control panel which is on my network. I am concerned that if they can access my network from the outside, they could see the whole network rather than just the control panel. That’s why I got involved with a managed switch. So, my computers and printers are on vlan1. My security panels are on vlan 3. My security camera is on vlan 4 and the Apple TV is on vlan 5.
I found very little information available on how to configure managed switches in this way. The documetation that came with this switch is 1154 pages long and deals with way too many much more involved setups. Not a complaint, but became quite confusing for me as a real novice. This was compounded by a bug in their software that would not perform a factory reset.
I finally found out what was needed and what was not and have sucsessfully configured it to provide the protection I need. Today, I was finally able to contact TP-Link phone support and they confirmed that I had everything correct!
