hi all,
SLES10 server wont proceed past GRUB.
Trying to use OpenSuse Live CD, mount /dev/system/root_lv /mnt but cannot access files - assume need to create root user with the same credentials to access the data? i have these credentials. I also have a SLES10 install DVD.
Any help appreciated, either correcting GRUB and /or mounting the drive successfully.
Ben
I usually use a knoppix cd or mepis cd
You may be able to login as root with the suse cd, I’ll just check (so I’ll be back) - it’s probably like this:
On the LiveCD boot menu, type the number “3” (without quotes) in the Boot Options. That will boot you to a command line prompt. Login as “root”
hey thanks… ill be here… ill try that suggestion now.
Ben.
yes the above is correct.
boot the cd, pause the menu timer by moving the down arrow, move back to the top boot option and just type the number: 3 and hit enter
when you get to the login, type: root
no password needed
then type: startx
you should be good
OK - got your reply - trying now. Be right back.
Ben.
hi there, didnt work. same thing, can mount but cannot see the files.
same result as if i typed su in console…hmm…
by the way I’m in england too.
Ben.
Any other ideas?
I’m downloading knoppix to burn to cdr also.
Are you sure you are trying to mount from the correct location
The live cd as root will give fdisk info of actual devices/partitions etc…
fdisk -l
Thats the string I used to mount it last time i think…novell tech support helped a while back with a similar issue. wish i could remember which/how live disk we used, if so.
It mounts all the partitions but i cannot access/see the files. Because i dont have rights?
I’m going to try fdisk -l now. just booted the live cd with boot option “3”.
is there a way we can chat, would be easier?, if you have time.
