This is my first linux experience and am extremely brand new to the world of penguins lol!
Here is the list of things i did:
1)Install suse 11.4 gnome.
2)Disabled nomodeset,blacklisted noveau
3)Added nvidia repository.
4)Updated system using yast.It installed some packages including adoble, flash, nvidia drivers etc.
5)Rebooted
6)System does not display gnome screen,it shows the termial like screen displaying login name.
7)Entered login name and password
8)Typed startx and got the following errors
xauth: file /home/ankit/.serverauth.1111 does not exist
Fatal server error:
Cannot move old log file “/var/log/Xorg.0.log” to “/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old”
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error
xinit failed. /usr/bin/Xorg is not setuid, maybe that’s the reason?
If so either use a display manager (strongly recommended) or adjust /etc/permissions.local
I have read several thread regarding nvidia but my problem is unique
You may be frustrated, but not mentioning in your title what your frustration is about does not help to draw the attention of people that could help you if they knew what sort of problem you have. (As it is now they might think it is a psychiatric problem )
Yes i am mad and i will have that problem if i continue further.I am feeling stupid now on how i removed windows7 that worked charm in order to try “ultra-advanced” Linux Operating systems and wasted my valuable “30th may 2011” Started at 08:00 am in morning and its now evening 7:00pm , formatting my hard disk 4times,going through several threads, googling several times and now after getting the taste of linux(an OS made for wasting time) i am moving back to windows. Is there any way i can convert the ext4 partition to ntfs?(i want my home partition to be as ntfs ) Or i need to format it (another waste of time). If no then thanks for all help.Goodbye

It is necessary to solve the startx problem first in order to find the next
problem.

That is the problem, and hints at what you should read to solve it.

While this will not be of much help, I will try to give a few hints which nigh help in either a new try to get openSUS running or otherwise in getting anything running.
Do not do to many thiings at once. As I read (quickly, not thoutoughly) through your story, I see that you tries to go for the NVIDIA driver andin the same big bang installed a lot of other things. Do one by one, solve the problems you meat (e.g. by asking here). When you do many things and something goes wroing neither you nor anybody else can know what caused what.
A second thing I saw was that you want to use an NTFS file system mounted as /home. In short: Please don’t Non-linux file systems do not support all the things needed by the system in a file system. The fact that you can use an NTFS in Linux is only for exchanging data with Windows systems (ether in a dual boot situation or with removable devices). The software that makes it possible to read/write NTFS (or VFAT) is full of emulations and mimicing of Linux features that are not available on these file systems. Not a good base for an integral part of your Linux file tree.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): The interrupt for NVIDIA graphics device PCI:x:x:x
(EE) NVIDIA(0): appears to be edge-triggered. Please see the COMMON
(EE) NVIDIA(0): PROBLEMS section in the README for additional information.
An edge-triggered interrupt means that the kernel has programmed the interrupt as edge-triggered rather than level-triggered in the Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller (APIC). Edge-triggered interrupts are not intended to be used for sharing an interrupt line between multiple devices; level-triggered interrupts are the intended trigger for such usage. When using edge-triggered interrupts, it is common for device drivers using that interrupt line to stop receiving interrupts. This would appear to the end user as those devices no longer working, and potentially as a full system hang. These problems tend to be more common when multiple devices are sharing that interrupt line.
What is wrong here:
1)“xinit failed. /usr/bin/Xorg is not setuid, maybe that’s the reason?” or
2)nvidia fails to start
i get both messages. The only thing i did do is what i said in my first post
Here is the list of things i did:
1)Install suse 11.4 gnome.
2)Disabled nomodeset,blacklisted noveau
3)Added nvidia repository.
4)Updated system using yast.It installed some packages including adoble, flash, nvidia drivers etc.
5)Rebooted
6)System does not display gnome screen,it shows the termial like screen displaying login name.
7)Entered login name and password
8)Typed startx and got the following errors

No, that’s the other problem, that impedes startx to be used as plain user.
Vodoo told you have to solve that problem, albeit temporarily.
> or
> 2)nvidia fails to start
That’s a different problem.
There have been reports of nvidia stoping to work after recent updates, you
might have that problem. However, as the subjec is “Re: Help,This is
frustrating. What problem is this?” you are atracting people interested in
psycology instead of those interested in nvidia problems >:-P

Absolutely.

Reinstall suse. (If you have accepted the default settings for the previous installs, you only need to format the root partition. In any case, formatting an ext4 drive is quicker than formatting the same drive in wndows for ntfs!)
Once suse has installed, don’t update anything.
Reboot and see what happens.
Many nvidia display systems will run quite happily without the nvidia drivers.
If you still have a problem, post the problem and we will try and help.
openSuSE is not the only distro that has problems with nvidia drivers. They all do to some extent.
