Just made a fresh OpenSuse 11.1 x64 install and also went to Yast-Online Updating then went to @System and right clicked over the repositories, update all if new version.
I read among all updates something about Kernel update.
Problem started when after rebooting i installed ATI driver. After rebooting again i some weird things on boot up and some flickering on desktop for some seconds. Also screen is kinda sluggish, if i move a window over another i get some weierd drawings.
This is the info i could get:
Linux 126.96.36.199-0.1-default x86_64
openSUSE 11.1 (x86_64)
4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3) “release 4.10.4”
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT
Dont know what could be causing the problem.
Update: I just read another Topic here on the forum and i read something about kernel and graphic drivers should match, so i did a downgrade from kernel 188.8.131.52 to 184.108.40.206 so that it matches the ATI drivers. Still flickering
You’d have to do a very lot, since a lot of the linux kernel development has changed. Just installing the HEAD kernel will definitely bring you in the kind of trouble you cannot solve through these fora. This kernel is meant for developpers and testers.
Yet, if you do need the 2.6.31 kernel, go for the most recent Milestone release or Factory Live CD.
Hmmm yea that sounds pretty complicated, though even kernel 2.6.28 would work, just need something newer than 2.6.27.
This if what i was told on F@H forum:
Does your linux distribution uses a 2.6.27 kernel ? If yes, upgrade your kernel to a more recent one (2.6.28 or more recent), downgrade to an older one (2.6.24 or less) or install another distribution with one of the kernels mentioned above.
