Help on HP Mini-Note Video card driver update

Hi,

I’m new with SLED and I want to ask on how to update my video card drivers on my HP-Mininote.

It uses a VIA Chrome 9 videocard and I’ve alreday downloaded the .tar.gz file from the VIA Driver website.

Can anyone teach me the step-by-step guide on how to update it?

Thanks

Hi
This is the openSUSE forum, you may be better off posting questions
over in the Novell forum http://forums.novell.com

If you are going to install it’s best to use SLED rpm’s. Have a read of
the following links;

suse-openchrome
and openSUSE VIA

You could also look here and search for openchrome and unichrome;
Get It

Or try the ones from the openchrome site;

Hi (again)
You may note from the last link, none of the Unichrome 9 support 3D
yet, so if your looking for 3D you may be disappointed…

To check the card number run the following command;

/sbin/lspci -nnv |grep VGA

For an example I have a via gpu on a picoitx board which produces the
following output;

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: VIA
Technologies, Inc. CX700M2 UniChrome PRO II Graphics [1106:3157] (rev
03) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

The [nnnn:3157] shows this card does support 3D from the list.
