For multimedia and other restricted format (MP3,Encrypted DVD, DiVX,etc)
issues, see http://opensuse-community.org/Restricted_Formats

Kind regards,

The link provided by AndreasStieger will lead you ultmiately to a one-click install method.

Every one has their prefernces, and I prefer a different method where one FIRST sets up their Software Package Manager’s repositories (where in our case repositories are file servers on the internet that provide applications for openSUSE Linux) , and then with their PC connected to the internet, installs the application they want via their Software Package Manager. I find this gives me more precise control over the process, but it is still very semi-automatic.

For openSUSE I recommend you follow the instructions in the following link:
Repositories - openSUSE-Community I recommend you add ONLY OSS, Non-OSS, Update and Packman repositories. Just those 4 repositories. No others. None. When you learn more about the conflicts and problems that can happen with too many repositories, and when you learn how to solve the problems, you can add more. In particular I recommend you do not add videolan. Instead, I recommend as a new user you use the version of vlc provided by the Packman Packagers.

Once you have those 4 respositories set up, you can install it (with your pc connected to the internet) by either typing in a terminal or konsole:
su -c ‘zypper install vlc’(enter root password when prompted) or you can go to YaST > Software > Software Management, and change the “filter” to “search” and do a search for “vlc” and install the Packman packaged version of vlc. You can tell its a packman packaged version by the “pm” in the version number.

Thanks for ur reply and help. But now only i came to know that,VLC supports Suse 10.3 and above…May that`s y the installed VLC does not work in my SLED 10.1.Any thanks,Now i will try to Update my TOTEM player to play *avi,Divx formats…

Not entirely correct. In the past I have run VLC on a 9.3, 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2 SuSE/openSUSE PC.

I think you are on the wrong forum for sled support? Is not the sled forum here: SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (SLED) - NOVELL FORUMS
