thanks guyz! help me

In suse
open a terminal and type

fdisk -l

paste result here

I’m guessing the section:
title Windows 7
rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader (hd0,0)+1

is not correct

maybe needs to be

rootnoverify (hd0,1)
chainloader (hd0,0)+1

depending on your partitions

in terminal it says, command not found…

sorry, I should have spelled it out

first go su. That means type: su
then your root password

then

fdisk -l

here it is

Disk /dev/sda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes

Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

maybe needs to be

rootnoverify (hd0,1)
chainloader (hd0,0)+1

Make a backup of /boot/grub/menu.lst

and try the above.

hey, when i chose windows 7, then it redirects me to open suse installer (local)

my windows 7 drive is in c: drive, but it was mounted to roor>windows>c here in opensuse.

explain:

/dev/sda1 * 1 5069 40716711 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 5070 9729 37431450 f W95 Ext’d (LBA)
/dev/sda5 5070 5666 4795371 7 HPFS/NTFS

what is this in bold
I assume sda1 is the actuall windows install

And just what do you mean

it redirects me to open suse installer (local)

Installer??
You don’t have dvd in the drive do you?

yah, sda1 is windows

but the bold other one, is a ntfs drive. it contains open suse installer which i extratced becaue its an iso yesterday coz im using windows yesterday… pls help me

i gotta work at windows ryt now… thanks

i mean, when i choose windows 7, it redirects me to sda5, even if my boot settings is sda1 or hd0,0

thanks.

Going by fdisk

the original menu

rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader (hd0,0)+1

should be correct
basically hd0 means 1st drive and ,0 means 1st partition

which is what you have
windows is on the 1st partition of the 1st and only drive.

I’m not familiar with having the suse installer in a partition as you have, so I can’t really say anything on this, maybe someone else will come in on this, Mingus725 or swerdna:GRUB Boot Multiboot openSUSE Windows (2000, XP, Vista) using the Grub bootloader.

i cant boot to windows… coz it redirects me to open suse installer which is on sda5

Yeah, I got that. And can’t figure out why that could be happening.

Go in to Yast - Partitioner
and from the list it gives, tell us which are primary and which are extended partitions.

Ok. So are we to understand this, that you have no install dvd and maybe no dvd drive either??

yah! youre right , i just downloaded iso file from opensuse site. and extracted and click exe file and it says, i need to rebbot the pc, by that time, im using windows and when i restarted, the installation begin, the bootloader there is grub.

so? how can we fix em up

Did you install grub to the MBR?

I think this may be your problem. I copied this from swerdna’s page:

go to Yast → System → Boot Loader. The Grub configuration screen comes up with the Tab “Section Management” activated. In the lower right is a drop-down selector labelled “Other”. Select from “Other” the option “Propose New Configuration” and then wait for Grub to analyse your partitions and display a new configuration. This may take a while. Important: When that finishes, activate the tab labelled “Boot Loader Installation” and select to “Boot from the Master Boot Record”. [Yast will often default to booting from the root or boot partition rather than from the MBR but that’s for experts only – always choose the MBR.] Then click Finish to save the changes and install the reconfigured Grub into the hard drive’s MBR. If you get a message that "The bootloader boot sector will be written to a floppy disk … don’t bother with the floppy – just click OK to proceed and install to the MBR. Reboot

hey, what i found out that, why windows is booting to open suse installer is that there is open suse folder installations and files here in my drive c: look at the screenshot. is it safe to delete all opensuse folder and files there?

I would be extremely careful. Deleting files there is not a good idea. Do you have the ability to re-install windows??
You didn’t actually say if you have a cd/dvd drive or not!

My first try would be that of the grub bootloader in thread 17

i have cd drive… i can install windows but xp only… what theead 17?
