Help installing 11.1 on an asus eee

I am running opensuse 11.0 on an asus eee (the small desktop not the laptop) but thought to upgrade to 11.1. First I tried to upgrade online following some instructions on the web, this seemed to load ok but I got a blank screen so reinstalled 11.0. Then I downloaded the 11.1 dvd. When it ran I got the splash screen but then either a blank screen , or my monitor switched off depending on my choice of video size. So after a few unsuccessful tries I downloaded the Gnome live cd. Tried that and had exactly the same response. Can anyone explain what is happening and suggest a fix? I had no problem installing 11.0, so what is the difference between 11.0 and 11.1 to cause these problems. (Ive seen posts from people who had no trouble installing 11.1 on an asus).
Thanks
Alan

Hi
Check your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and see which driver is being used.
You could also try setting the screen to 800x600 for the install. Else
try the command vga=vesa in the boot option when the dvd boots.

Malcolm,
I tried choosing 800x600 and vesa from key f3(is it) and same effect blank screen. I also tried vga=0x31 which is the command on my 11.0 splash screen again blank screen on booting with dvd.
I dont understand your comment seeing which driver in my xorg.conf file or how to use the information. But file is below

Hi
Just to see the above  Your not trying to install with the external
monitor connected? If so, what happens if you just use lcd?

I have no lcd I have the eee desktop which is a little white box sitting on my desk with separate keyboard and mouse and external monitor only. From your question I surmise that suse 11.1 is assuming the laptop and is not trying to use the external monitor connection. How do I rectify this?

Alan

Hi
My error, didn’t realize it’s a desktop… :frowning:

Ok, are you using an LCD or CRT monitor? Are you using vga or dvi
connectors? If using dvi can you use vga instead, also check if there
is a BIOS setting for the monitor to use, set this to crt.
