Help fixing boot errors

Hi All,

Hoping that everyone is safe and well.

I’m new to OpenSUSE with very limited linux experience and hoping for some assistance.

Install went fine and the system is running well however I get this delay on boot and I’d like to fix this and some other errors in the log, presumably by stopping the kernel from trying to initialise the device, or reducing the timeout, or fixing the problem that causes the error.

Looking at the log reveals the following:

Aug 07 21:05:31 localhost kernel: ata4: softreset failed (device not ready)
Aug 07 21:05:31 localhost kernel: ata4: softreset failed (device not ready)
Aug 07 21:05:31 localhost kernel: ata4: link is slow to respond, please be patient (ready=0)
Aug 07 21:05:31 localhost kernel: random: crng init done
Aug 07 21:05:31 localhost kernel: ata4: softreset failed (device not ready)
Aug 07 21:05:31 localhost kernel: ata4: softreset failed (device not ready)
Aug 07 21:05:31 localhost kernel: ata4: reset failed, giving up

The second error section in the log is:

Aug 07 11:35:45 localhost kernel: nvidia-gpu 0000:01:00.3: i2c timeout error e0000000
Aug 07 11:35:45 localhost kernel: ucsi_ccg 1-0008: i2c_transfer failed -110
Aug 07 11:35:45 localhost kernel: ucsi_ccg 1-0008: ucsi_ccg_init failed - -110

though this doesn’t seem to be causing any problems.

I’d really appreciate any assistance in fixing these.

Thank you for your time.

Kind regards,

Kas

“ata4” is probably a disk drive.

It might be the DVD/CD drive, and it might not be ready because there is no CD/DVD in the drive. And if that’s what it is, then you can probably ignore.

Thank you for the response. It is one of two DVD Drives in the system. It slows down the boot, attempting 4 times before moving on, so I was wondering how to either reduce the timeout to failure, or stop OpenSUSE trying to detect the device?

All of those 4 attempts seem to happen within 1 second. I would guess that the slowdown is too small to matter.

If there is a BIOS option to disable the drive, you could try that.
