HELP DOWNLOADING AT RELEASE DATE

I have a proposition to all You guys who still have RC1 images.
Let’s all download delta iso (hell lot faster to download 1GB than 4.5GB isn’t?)rotfl! After that we can aid everyone downloading full dvd after we deltaiso our images.Am i clear ??
Instructions to everyone:
1)Check md5sum of Your RC1 image, after confirming it is ok start downloading delta iso (any torrent client)
2)After downloading delta iso merge it with RC1 (you’ll get full iso for the price of delta iso  )Confirm that md5 of that full iso is fine
3) Start uploading both images  (i definitely will)(just after a fresh installation <:)

Good luck!!

Will that work??? I mean, when I downloaded the 11.0 iso via bittorrent, the torrent file offered a list of all openSUSE 11.0 isos available. I chose only to download and spread the DVD image.
In case there’s a similar comfortable torrent for 11.1 which offers all the isos and I choose to download the 11.1 RC1-GM-delta only. When I then delta it to GM, give it the right file name and move it into the right directory… will ktorrent see that the GM is part of the “genuine openSUSE” torrent and start sharing it? I’m afraid not. But if that works - great. If it doesn’t work anyone would have to announce his own torrent. And it doesn’t make any sense to have dozens of torrents for the same file, each with one or a few seeders only.

This would leave you uploading a dvd whose gnome and KDE are out of date, leaving people having to download, install then update

Not a good idea IMHO better to get the 11.1 dvd and do clean install keeping only /home

No, when I “applydeltaiso RC1.iso RC1-GM-delta.iso GM.iso”, I will have the Goldmaster. That always worked.

I just wonder if the OP makes sense concerning the torrent idea. Maybe I got something wrong.

That would only work if applying the delta is guaranteed to result in a bit for bit identical ISO to the GM ISO (step 2).

If not, then the seeders will have to bear the bandwidth cost and it’s their problem. But if your sharing ratio is large, then the initial download will be overwhelmed by the upload anyway.

Every FULL iso i tried after applying delta iso was the same as the FULL dvd You would download from opensuse. It seems as they use delta isos first rotfl! I was kinda confused too thinking that the result will be different but at the end of applying delta iso You got a message that md5 sum recreated successfully. So these are the same images, so my idea is GOOD;)
When checking files with torrent You always get correct md5 as it corrects any abnormalities. I always used delta isos and always had the same MD5 sum as published at openSUSE. If i understand that right, if the DVD that results from applying delta iso would be different even by one bit the md5 sum would then be completely different and i always get correct md5 sum

By the way, if You are still using Windows  Don’t try to apply delta iso as it won’t work(unless under a Virtual Machines running openSUSE). I will be personally downloading the 64 bit dvd version(of course delta).

This is exactly what I did for Beta5 to RC1 and it Just Worked. After creating the image (and verifying its MD5 sum), I started the download of the “official” torrent. It checked the iso and started seeding.

I’ll do the same when GM comes out. Note that on older systems you may need to upgrade deltarpm.

Everyone get ready…

Isn’t release still two days away?

That doesn’t matter, get ready mentally:)

Unfortunately it’s not possible to create deltas for this DVDs as
some .noarch packages are compressed by ppc hosts and as such can
not be regenerated from i586 or x86_64 hosts
(see Access Denied)

No deltas… that’s bad. Hopefully, there will be some next time because today all the servers are terribly slow and somehow bittorent is also (ETA > 2 days here). I’m downloading for hours and see only very little progress :(. But I’ll keep on sharing to make the download a tick faster for others. Oh, and aria2 didn’t work. It exited with an error after more than 2 hours downloading.

Small wonder bittorent is slow. I’m seeing 277 seeders to about 3400 leechers here. Keep uploading people.

Using bittorent 6.1.2 I got this error “One or more file Exceed the file system size limit, this file can not be saved properly”,

mean while using http or FTP download using Free Download Manager (FDM)i got this information “Disk write error - Disk is Full” although I still have 15GB free disk space in my drive and the size of OpenSuSE 11.1 ISO Image is 4.3GB.

Can anyone explain to me why this is happen? :shame:

You should really make a separate thread for this but…
is your HD formatted as fat32? That cannot handle the really big files.
