HELP! Desktop vs Failsafe

Hi everyone!

I have a problem. Every time i start my computer two options appear on my screen - to load desktop and some numbers, or to load failsafe and some numbers behind it. It never wants to load properly - directly into the system.

How can i make it go away? Thank you!

The screen you’re seeing is the bootloader, and that’s perfectly normal.
“Desktop” is the one you want.

If you select that option, does it load or do you run into problems - and
if you run into problems, what are they?

(You may have to press the escape key to get the system to show you the
messages during startup).

Oh, didn’t know that was normal.

It goes on normally, i was just thinking if there’s a way of booting directly into the system, without it asking me which one i prefer.

Thanks!

Nope, that’s actually before openSUSE has started. You can reduce the
time it waits, but if you ever needed to go into failsafe mode (say, to
deal with a bad driver update - it does happen sometimes), you’d make it
more difficult to do so.

In Windows, if you want to boot in Safe Mode, you have to stab repeatedly at F8
and hope you get it right. In Linux, it is much more civilized. As you have
noted, one of the choices is the default, and after a short timeout period, it
will be selected.

As we approach the Christmas season, I think you will enjoy the change to this
screen.

The default waiting time is 8 sec. You can change this in Yast>Bootloader, but make sure you know what you are doing.
Alternatively, you can just press <enter> at the boot screen so you don’t have to wait the full 8 seconds - no irony intended, I usually change that to 4 or even 2 seconds in my machines (but not in a new user’s).
