Help! Can't open any folders or files...

Suse 13.1 Linux 3.11.10-29-desktop
openSUSE 13.1 (Bottle) (x86_64)
KDE 4.11.5

Since a reboot tonight after having to re-install my Ati driver I cannot open any folders within either Dolphin or Konqueror…
If I click on a desktop folder it opens in Dolphin, but I am then unable to open any subfolders or files within that folder window. I can successfully go up a level but I am then unable to open the folder I was originally in and just went up a level from!
I get exactly the same behaviour in Konqueror.
I am able to open the files that I can see on my Desktop folder. Or I can select documents with >file>open Okular or Libre and open them OK. I cannot however open any files from within a Dolphin or Konqueror window. I do seem to be able to browse through the directory tree fine with the programmes ‘open file’ search utilities.
I can cd to any directory I like in a terminal and then also cd into subdirectories so it seems to be purely a GUI issue…

Any help verrry welcome - this is driving me nuts!

So I found a solution - seems that changing my ‘single click to open’ preference to ‘double click’ in the Dolphin settings has restored sanity. Everything now opens fine in both Dolphin and Konqueror. If I change it back again to single click nothing responds…

Since single click is normal I suggest you have something messed up. Installing a video driver should not change that behaviour

Try a different new user and see it the problem follows.
