I installed opensuse on my laptop today and I really like ut. I set it up for auto login. I decided to log out to try some different DEs so I started playing around with them then i got to TWM and it wouldn’t let me login it just went blue (which scared me because of past experiance with windows). So I shutdown and started it up again but same again. Then i tried playing around with the fail safe treminal to see if I could crack the command (fixed alot of problems in ubuntu by guessing commands) to disable auto login but had no luck.
Any ideas?
thanks in advance :sarcastic:>:(
while in init3 su to root and launch yast2(system manager) in text mode). under security and users->user and group management-expert options->login settings you can disable autologin
you go via tab and arrows through the menus.
TWM is just blue. rotfl!
Try clicking any mouse button, you should be able to logout then and get back to the login screen…
If you want to disable autologin, have a look at the file /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager (the setting is called DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN).

there was no mouse reponse but i’l try the other things and report back
Have you tried both buttons?
You can also press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace twice to kill and restart the X server, bringing you back to the login screen.
Or maybe it would log you in immediately again?
I’m not sure, since I never used auto-login, but it’s worth a try…
Hmmmm
I wonder if this new(?) feature described here which I also noticed is so desirable… once any Desktop is selected it becomes the new default. Maybe the old way is better when default stays the same unless changed.
TSU
The default does stay the same.
But KDM remembers for each user, which Desktop he/she selected last time. And that’s no new feature, that’s been that way as far as I remember.
This is stored in the file ~/.dmrc , delete that file and you should get to the default Desktop again.
