Hello from new user

Or should I say “hello from new infrauser”? Hello all ¡hola! (spanish is my first language).

I’ve been using OpenSUSE for three or four months now, after previous short experiences with other distros and a lot of years of MS Windows home use (that, I realize now, made me unlearn -almost as much as learn- about computers and my own computer). Overall I’m very happy with it and I think I’m not looking back.

Also, being shy, I’ve almost never participated in online communities, limiting myself to what I’ve seen called “lurking” (I like to think of me more as a reader than a lurker, but anyway…). I’d like to keep on learning, get an stable desktop, and try some of the things I have in mind.

As I said, I’m not very skilled or have a technical background, but I’ve seen that users like me (and we’re an awful lot!!!) can get things done and also help others in a variety of ways, let’s see…

In the next days I’ll try and post on some of the problems that I still have, get used to the features of the forum itself and world dominat… errr, perhaps engaging a bit more with other websites and communities I’ve lurked for years.

It’s being hard to introduce myself! Well, that’s it, I’ll post it, here I go, hi!

Welcome to the forums. We’re a friendly bunch here, so no need to worry! People are here because they like to help, so please post your questions and when you can help someone else, that will be good too.

Hi, welcome !!!

A couple of tips on posting:

  • Think of a proper title. “It don’t work” doesn’t mean anything.
  • Mention your openSUSE version, desktop environment used, 32/64bit etc.
  • When asked for output, paste the output between CODE tags.

Good luck, enjoy

Welcome infrauser. In 2004 I was the same as you, absolutely an identical story. The good natured and endlessly helpful openSUSE folk of that time made my journey in Linux possible. I hope you have a similarly fulfilling time.

Hello there ***infrauser ***and let me be the 1st, or err 2nd, no wait 3rd, oh heck the 4th to welcome you to the openSUSE forum. Just ask any question that you like and remember you can learn the most when trying to help (and duplicate) the problems of others.

Thank You (for using openSUSE),

Hello, thanks. Of course I’ll try to follow the guidelines on posting and general netiquette (is that word still in use?). Right now I’m using OpenSUSE 12.1 (32 bits), with the XFCE desktop environment. My CPU is an AMD Athlon XP 2800+. I’ve just found out that:

after you’ve made a few more posts you should be granted signature rights automatically by the Board software. And the link to “edit signature” will appear in that screenshot that you posted. It’s part of our antispam settings.

So… have a good sunday, here’s my “precocious” signature

Welcome to openSUSE forum.

I have to admit that I’m a bit thrilled by the fact that some of the responses come from people (you) whose posts I’ve been reading and following a lot these last months, it feels really nice. Hello again, prospective and retrospective thanks, folks.

Hi and Welcome

Rather than have to post your system/specs, suggest you look at adding
the details into your signature (Over in the profile page somewhere…)
then we all know what your running

Ah, one thing more you have not been told: this is perhaps the only forum
that besides the web page can be accessed via nntp, with plain text posts,
not with firefox but with thunderbird. This provides some interesting
misunderstandings now and then

Seems like signatures are added after some time, I can’t do it yet: http://forums.opensuse.org/forums/english/other-forums/looking-something-other-than-support/455713-how-add-signature-opensuse-forums.html
