Very pleased with overall look and feel, also the ease of installation I experienced with OpenSUSE 42.2
I must say, having stepped away from the Linux scene for the last decade, I feel like the the desktop environment is light years from what it was ten years ago.
Since the distro I last used was Ubuntu, and before that Mandriva, I am new to OpenSUSE.
I love learning new things and Plasma 5 has really found it’s way into a soft spot overnight.
I am having a few issues getting things set up, so I’ll head over to the support section and ask my questions in the proper threads.
Welcome to the Forums. If it is ten years since you last looked at Linux, openSUSE was less than two years old then and KDE4 was struggling to establish itself. Things are very different now with the development of Tumbleweed and LEAP and Plasma5 in KDE. But openSUSE has always supported Gnome and Xfce and has recently added LXQt. So you have plenty of choice in the one distro. Also the community and the Open Build Service give openSUSE a breadth of support that some distros will envy.
Always great to find another Montrealer. I’ve recently started using Opensuse 42.2 Gnome after years of ubuntu, arch, and fedora. Suse 10.0 was my first Linux install, and I stuck with Suse until KDE3 was abandoned. Much has changed since then and it’s good to be back!
