I’m pretty new to suse. Mostly migrated over because of the YaST kiwi image creator tool. I’m hoping to customize the install with proprietary drivers and some software and then put it on a usb stick to carry around.
With that in mind, how small can the linux installation be? Is there a way to see what programs are installed and how much space they take up? I haven’t been able to find an equivalent to the gnome “disk analyzer” (in ubuntu 10 etc) program to graphically see what programs take up most space… does one exist?
…Essentially I’ve installed a program that’s about 3GB big … and I’m already at 10GB. Would like to be at 6GB total … is this possible/realistic?
My base installs of OpenSUSE 11.3 are usually around 3 GB so your use of
seven makes me wonder what in the world you chose when you installed.
Installs of SUSE can start around 100 MB for a JeOS install (not what you
want I’m pretty sure) and go up from there. Installing a base server in
about 500 MB is certainly possible, though again without a graphical
environment. Being within two gigabytes with a full GUI should be easy.
