Hello...and before I join OpenSuse a question

Hi,
Finally had enough of the linux distro (so many problems) I’m currently using and having tried out the live CD I’m keen to install with 12.1.

BUT…

My only method of connecting to the internet is via a cell phone (bluetooth - using bluedevil) - that’s the way it is where I live.

Having played with the live CD I can’t locate bluedevil though I have found a few command line bluetooth related things (don’t much like command line - hate writing scripts, much rather point and click).

Does the live cd come with bluedevil and if not can I download it to install after the main install is complete?
Guess I need to know that and also

the dependencies

bound to be a library or 2 that will need referencing but not installed on initial install

the order in which to install

I’ve had a look around but I’m not too technical and whilst I can can follow instructions (detailed) I’m sure I’ll mess it up by myself.

Need to get everything absolutely rock solid on how to install (to be able to connect to the internet) before I wipe the disk and install OpenSuse!

Many thanks in advance.

Richard

A very helpful resource for searching for packages is to go to software.opensuse.org and simply search there.

It will tell you what repo is it in as well.

If you are not getting good results, check users build services projects.
Click (Search options) then place a check beside “Include users’ home projects” then search again.

I am not sure how to weight what you must install to get bluedevil, but I can say the package is present and can be installed from the default openSUSE repositories. Its installed by default when you install the openSUSE DVD and not installed by default when you install the LiveCD, but can be selected for installation from its package listing.

Thank You,

I’m not sure openSUSE is a good one if your connectivity is limited.

It is downloadable via zypper from the standard repos, but if you need it
to connect and is not in the CD then you have a problem (I do not know if
it is or not). It is included in the DVD, that I checked.

Do you really need to erase everything? Unless your space is limited, you
can have several distros installed.

Hi
If you login to http://susestdio.com you can create your own live cd
with the necessary packages and install from that… Since it’s a live
CD, you can test and ensure you have internet etc…
