ooops
sorry i have open suse11 by the way.
also ex’d linux guy…but rusty with suse…
again…thank you for the help

Hello brascocampbell, welcome to the forums
I’ll assume you have openSUSE 11.0 (not 11.1 beta) and a 32 bit (not 64) CPU. Correct me if I’m wrong.

You can install Madwifi drivers to get that card to work.

You have the wrong Madwifi RPMs installed:
madwifi-devel-0.9.3.99-118.1
madwifi-0.9.3.99-118.1

So uninstall those using Yast → software management. Then add the correct repositories for Madwifi RPMs as detailed in this tutorial:
Madwifi or Ndiswrapper Wireless Network Drivers - Suse/openSUSE 10, 11 - LAN & Internet access

The tutorial talks about Madwifi and Ndiswrapper, two alternate ways to do things. Just skip past the Ndiswrapper stuff.

No doubt you’ll have more questions as you proceed – feel free to ask.

Cheers
Swerdna

hey thanks for the quick reply
i’ll check it all out and see what happens
scott

ok need some more help.
how to remove software with yast.
please do post up- i will be reading and searching for the same–
thanks again

scottrotfl!

oh! there we go–i used the zypper application from the command line.

Here are the basic commands:

* zypper in foo - installs package foo
* zypper rm foo - removes package foo
* zypper se foo - searches for foo
* zypper up - updates the system
* zypper --help - more information

now to continue on and seeif i can get this thing going

For sake of other readers. The command to elicit chipset information about you PCI/e net cards ought to be like this:

lspci -nn | egrep "Ethernet|Atheros|Network"

My original lspci -nn | egrep “thernet|theros” was just a throw away line for a simple situation. Others seem to have picked it up and I suppose should use the more meaningful form in the {code} box

well i have nothing.gar!!

my wifi is still not seen.and unsure if madwifi is installed or not…
frustrated here …hmmmm dang it LOL

So lets look at what Madwifi RPMs are installed:

rpm -qa | grep madwifi

and at your kernel:

uname -r

and your kernel modules for wireless

lsmod | egrep "ath|wlan|802"

And it seems you have to follow a solution found by bbqau here:
[Solution]Atheros AR242x - Suse11 - pae kernel - openSUSE Forums](http://forums.opensuse.org/network-internet/wireless/396325-solution-atheros-ar242x-suse11-pae-kernel.html)

and currently being pursued here by Shilonus:
Wireless Internet Not Working (Atheros) - openSUSE Forums

HI, I HAVE A NEW TOSHIBA AND I CAN’T WORK THE WIRELESS NETWORK. IT TELLS ME THAT I NEED TO INSTALL THE AR242X802.11abg LINUX. I HAVE NO IDEA ON HOW TO DO THAT CAN SOME HELP ME…

ALSO I’M NEW TO THIS FORUM FIRST DAY…

THANKS

hi azunigal0207; welcome to the suse forums; folks want to help you; and you can help everyone too:

at the start of this forum that you posted in; are things called stickies: they are instructions on how to do things;

sticky 1: My wireless doesn’t work - a primer on what I should do next - openSUSE Forums

sticky 2:Welcome - openSUSE Forums

so best to:

  1. read both of these
  2. make a NEW POST, all of your own;
  3. include the information that you are asked for, in the above stickies

the wireless experts are very busy: help them by getting all the information they will need;

all best wishes

Best you start a new thread, the OP’s problem may not be related & also, your problem won’t be buried under a load of stuff not related to you. And,while you are at it, have a read of the stickies at the start of the wireless section, lots of good info there
