thanks for the heads up, i was unaware…and, if you can: How can it
be that a “global announcement” is not global, but http only?
i mean, are http users served a “global announcement” as they sign in?
or when first arriving at forums.opensuse.org (so readers only get it)?
if so, perhaps the “global announcement” machinery needs to be cc: to
the announcements forum…
WAIT, this is the announcements forum and i do not see the “global
announcement” which SEEMS to be in the web side, but not the nntp
side…hmmmmm…very very strange…
Bugs will also have to wait a bit;)
“Bugzilla will be unavailable for several hours starting at 14:00 MDT (UTC -6:00) on Saturday, June 26 for a data center hardware upgrade. No changes will be made to Bugzilla at this time.”
from https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=606833 (but maybe also on other bugzilla sides or via bugzillas most used NNTP service;))

“Global Announcement” is a web forum thing (and is specific vBulletin
terminology). It shows in all of the forums, but isn’t part of a forum
itself, hence it’s not gated to the NNTP interface.

Yes, the notification I received said that the outage would affect opensuse.org as a whole (though any parts located entirely outside the
Provo data center would be unaffected).

You could think of gating the announcements mail list (it is read only
for normal subscribers) to here.

Not a bad thought, once we get past this phase of breaking in the new
software, I’ll raise the idea here.
