HDMI acting odd

Dear, experts

my laptop has hdmi output and it doesn’t work well. i have to reboot to get it to switch to hdmi output and when it does switch all the fonts are really small. i have to make them about size 25 and then they only look like about size 12. and i cant get the hdmi sound output to work. i tried looking in the sound mixer but nothing seems to work

I’m no expert but if your using an nVidia card you should try using nvidia-settings to setup your hdmi… It works for me without any rebooting.
As for the sound i initially had the same issue. I fixed it by messing in the alsamixer. I had to unmute one of the switches
