HDA Intel audio problem

I’m an experienced Windows user, but new to Linux. I have Realtek HD Audio integrated on my motherboard; the Linux OS recognizes it as HDA Intel, but it doesn’t work consistently, or at all. I found a post on editing the ALSA-configuration.txt file, and ran head -n 1 /proc/asound/card0/codec* to get the codec information - the system identified it as ALC888. The ALSA-configuration file on my system doesn’t have a section for ALC888 - would appreciate a nudge in the right direction.

See if this helps:

SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

The machines with hda audio hardware I mantain use the snd-hda-intel driver.

Thank you - the info you sent got everything up & running. Still having an issue playing audio cd’s, but there are other posts in the support forum addressing the same issues I’m running into. lol!
