having problems w openGL 3d on my thinkpad t23

I am having problems w openGL 3d on my thinkpad t23

my glxinfo shows no hardware 3d

OpenGL vendor string: Mesa Project
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
OpenGL version string: 2.1 Mesa 7.2

my xorg.conf:

BoardName “SuperSavage/IXC 64 SDR”
Driver “savage”
Identifier “Device[0]”
Screen 0
VendorName “S3”

I probably need to download some drivers im thinking ATI would do but i’m not sure which one to download.
any ideas?

currently i can get some desktop effects on kde but i can’t play any games -Sauerbraten plays at 2fps!

my glxgears are poor but i should be able to do better than 2fps

358 frames in 5.3 seconds = 67.711 FPS
214 frames in 5.0 seconds = 42.790 FPS
265 frames in 5.0 seconds = 52.986 FPS
263 frames in 5.0 seconds = 52.287 FPS
246 frames in 5.0 seconds = 48.996 FPS
