I updated my system last night and all of a sudden i couldnt boot in to my GUI. i restarted Xserver a number of times using the alt-ctrl-bskp but it would jsut hold at a blank screen with a busy cursor. a couple of times a few things on startup loaded like pidgin without window decorations. i booted in to a second disc that had an old 11.2 RC1 installed and that booted fine, i then diciceded that considering that 11.3 will be here soon decieded to stay with this and just applied the 30 or so security updates only. but after that it had the same problem. I didn’t know if this was an X issue as i can get in to all the tty’s and i had reinstalled the ati drivers and used failsafe.
Today i have reisntalled the base 11.2 on the first disc without formating my home drive and X did free but when i alt-crtl-bksp it did arrive a the login screen as per nomral but it will freeze when i ahve put in my user name and password.
Im gonna try and dig out some files, maybe someout the actual /home partition has been changed and is causing this, if ness i will reinstall and blitz the home drive as i sensably backed up stuff yesterday!!!
Is anyone else having these issues on 11.2 with all updates and a ATI/xserver driver on an gnome desktop???
