After entering my password, the screen goes black. Then the background fades in, and the screen goes black. Then the background fades in, and the screen goes black, again. Then it comes back to the password dialog box. It doesn’t happen every time, maybe twice a week. Second time always works. Known issue?
What desktop are you using?
What login manager are you using?
Maybe, with a few hints, we will be able to work out what you are trying to describe.
As far as I know, I am not seeing anything that would fit your description. I use “gdm” for logins, and my desktop is usually KDE but sometimes I login to Gnome.
I am using the openSUSE defaults + KDE desktop, with nearly up-to-date tumbleweed files. It’s not the login screen (no problems with login screen). Problem is with the KDE screenlocker screen. I don’t use any sort of desktop timeout. I must manually click the lock icon. I don’t sleep / hibernate / resume, but I did just turn off “Lock screen on resume”, maybe it’s buggy or something, shot in the dark, probably no effect …
I’ll have to record me unlocking the screen everyday to catch the exact happenings. Maybe it only triggers on Monday mornings after an entire weekend of being locked. I have’t kept notes.
