I see that you are new. Have you updated your installation after you installed from the CD or DVD? Did you add in the Packman Repository yet? All new users need to go here first and do some reading:

New User How To/FAQ (read only)

Once you have updated your new installation, we would need to attack each problem separately.

Thank You,

Try running yast, then online update. Do the updates. Do not add any repo,
just use the automatics.

So you don’t add any repos Carlos or you have found that adding in Packman screws up your computer?

Thank You,

I did some updates with help of my friend to be honest I was like guest in all this drama, apparently he did update and tried some tricky steps to overcome that for that with the leak of time he has, I had to carry on asking online help and thanks for the answer back, I’ll try with your hints and keep you updated with my conclusions

It is very hard to provide help with few details and even harder to relay help and problems as you are trying to do. If you can provide more details we will help as best as we can and good luck.

Thank You,

They are not necessary at this moment. Often novices tend to add lots of
repos and break things. I think it best he installs the mandatory updates
for now, later there is time for packman or whatever.

I would be happy to give you more info, but what kind of info you want to know, I tried my best with the knowledge I have in this new system, I’m guy decide to immigrant from windows to Linux

I ask the Man he said we did some updates by selecting some files in the list, and we would like to know which files are needed in my case?, is there any specific files or what, I didn’t get any sign of automatic updates where I can find this option? sorry I’m asking much

There are lots of ways to perform an update, but the way I prefer is to run YaST:

YaST (Enter Root User Password) / Software / Software Management / Package (Menu) / All Packages / Update if newer version available / Press Continue (If Asked) / and then the Accept button on the bottom right.

Thank You,

Start up YaST.
Select software group (left panel).
Select online update.
Let it run, change nothing.

Here are the recommendations from mmcheck, a bash script you can find here: MMCHECK - Version 2.35 - Check Your Multimedia in 16 Steps - Bash Script File - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

14. Show if Java Packages are Installed from openSUSE ...

Command: **rpm --query --all --queryformat '%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}-%{ARCH} -> %{VENDOR}
' '*java-*'**

java-1_6_0-sun-alsa-1.6.0.u26-0.2.1-x86_64 -> openSUSE
java-1_6_0-sun-plugin-1.6.0.u26-0.2.1-x86_64 -> openSUSE
java-1_6_0-sun-1.6.0.u26-0.2.1-x86_64 -> openSUSE

You should expect to have only Sun Java Packages installed. If your files
include the name --> openjdk <--, it is suggested that they be uninstalled.

To avoid package problems, the most important thing to do is to: **NEVER**
ignore a dependency, even if YaST/zypper/updater gives you such an option!
In general, never switch to an >inferior< architecture and the solution is
most often to just switch Vendor to the >Packman< repository. So changing
the vendor is OK, but >ignoring< dependencies is never a very good idea!
Press <enter> to continue...

You can open a terminal session and run the following command to see what you have loaded for java, though getting the mmcheck script would do a lot more:

**rpm --query --all --queryformat '%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}-%{ARCH} -> %{VENDOR}
' '*java-*'**

In this case, it is a known conflict. An error in the provided packages.

The suggested solution is to remove ALL of the openjdk files. I have cronie installed with no problems when using the sun java versions as suggested above.

Me too.

But package cronie has substituted the original package cron that came with
the DVD, and the version number is lower. It is an upgrade, but numerically
it is a downgrade. It is a known problem.

Your solution is a bit more complex to do, and he is a novice. Just
selecting the apparent downgrade with a click or two is easier.

So the actual solution to follow may be a matter of opinion but I suggest that mine is more likely to work as the user is already in trouble. But alas, nothing is ever as simple as it seems including imparting help to others.

No, it is not… one may advise something considered as simple, and the
other person finds it impossible. Or finds a hurdle in the middle you never
saw.

well thanks everyone share and care in my matter, in fact I reach the end of road I did the best I could, it’s quite obvious above my understanding as man came from windows OS but I tend to choose Ubuntu as start then with future I’ll try to follow the professional versions of Linux, really I miss the words to say you have been very helpful for me, you did what you could wish you good day
