Hauwei E169 - Virginbroadband Au - Connected Suse 11.0

After reading and posting all over the place I finally managed to get connected…

The howto http://en.opensuse.org/Huawei_UMTS_USB_Stick#Huawei_HSDPA_USB_Stick
gets thing happening but for virginbroadband in Australia there are a few extra things to add to get a connection with NetworkManager…

Username = blank
Password = blank
PinNumber = 0000
type the word blank in each, don’t just leave them blank.
APN = VirginBroadband
Select, nochap and nobsd
Change Baud Rate to 115200
Click, Save & Connect and you should have a connection

Hope this is helpful…

Ok I now have my wireless connection; unfortunately with a few problems.

Amend from original post: I have tried with out removing ‘bsdcomp’ and it still connects ok…

Problem: Is there a way to automate the huawei_umtsmodem script, at present I need to run,"/lib/udev/huawei_modem_add.sh" manually each time I want to connect or all I get is a dialup connection of around 34kb. With the script I get up to 2.8Mbps.

Secondly, Is there a way I can get networkmanager to remember settings? When I go to login, I run the script then have to open, edit connections in networkmanager and re-tick “nochap and CRTSCTS”. If I don’t do this the modem won’t connect at all.

This I solved with a symlink to /etc/init.d/rc3.d. Unless I hotplug the modem in which case I still need to run the script manually.

This I can’t get around. Is this a bug in networkmanager, or is setting options each time you connect the standard thing for this kind of connection?
