If so do you get a plasma crash warning when booting to the desktop? It doesn’t happen to me everytime - about 1 in three boots. kde works fine, it is just a case of closing the warning message.
Thanks

I’m using 20141126. I have not seen any problems with it.
Are you using “btrfs”? I have seen reports of problems with plasma crashing when “btrfs” is used. Some reports say that the 3.17.3 kernel fixes this. Tumbleweed is still using 3.17.2.
I’m using “ext4” and not having problems.
Many thanks for posting. Am a bit old-fashioned and still use ext4.
I retraced all the steps that I have made since installing yesterday and fouind the problem - it was using the breeze style icons that it didn’t like. Changed back to the default and re-booted 10 times and all well.

Same here when using 20141126 and previously.

Those reports I think were for the 13.2 GA release (3.16.6 kernel). The only relevant report on our bugzilla is: 905832 – Please backport mmap btrfs fixes/or update to kernel 3.16.7/3.17.3
That bugzilla was reported by a third party who doesn’t use btrfs and couldn’t test, with no real evidence there that ties it to btrfs.
I see the investigation by David Sterba has now completed, after backporting further unrelated patches, with “this is not a btrfs bug, but the backport was worth anyway”.
Here, Tunbleweed 20141126 (3.17.2 kernel-desktop) on bare metal, has been running KDE 4.14.3 with Btrfs and without KDE crashing at all.
I rebooted 20141126 with 3.16.6 kernel-desktop and tried for a couple of hours to break it with a much heavier application loading (CPU, memory, and disk utilization), but KDE and Btrfs never crashed, there was no other system failure and it never once failed to respond.
It’s now moved on to 20141201 with 3.17.4-1-desktop, and looking good so far.
