Hardware Compatibility List?

Where can I find the Hardware Compatibility List for this distro?

I want to see if my all-in-one printer, Canon MF4770n is compatible
before burning a disc for this OS.

Actually, printer hardware is not really distro-specific. You really need to check for the availability of open source CUPS drivers and proprietary manufacturer drivers.

In the past cannon has not had the best support for any Linux.

Doing a Search shows a package from Cannon for “Linux” for that printer. Have no idea if it works or not. Don’t own that printer, sorry :’(

A quick search of a Canon site turned up

http://usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/imageclass_series/imageclass_mf4770n#DriversAndSoftware

Download the tarball (.tar.gz file) and then right-click on the downloaded file and extract. Navigate to the RPM folder (64-bit or 32-bit appropriate for your system) and proceed to installing them via the package manager.

Then you should be able to confiture your printer via the CUPS web interface

Come back here when you’re up and running with openSUSE, and let us know how you get on.

Well, I used the driver on the Canon site on Netrunner and it actually worked for the printer itself. But Not the scanner.
I have tried several things to get the scanner running, but have not been successful as of yet.

I’m just wondering if there is anyone using Suse that got the MF4770n scanner to work and how they did it.

The scanner is supported by the sane-pixma scanner driver, so should work out-of-the-box as such

I can help you with that if you get stuck, but the YaST scanner config tool should be capable of configuring. (If not it is easy to configure by hand.)

You should try a trade-in for something else. Canon and Linux mix poorly.
Using my MF4370dn has been nearly impossible from 11.2 all the way up to
date, with about 8 different Canon driver versions, the first of which took 9
months to locate because Canon refused to acknowledge a driver for Linux even
existed. In Windows it works perfectly. My story is little different from
that of other Canon users. Next printer I buy will be a Brother.

The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant
words are persuasive.

Team OS/2 ** Reg. Linux User #211409 ** a11y rocks!

I also had a Canon printer. I will never buy another one, nor any other
product from them, if I can avoid it (and they do good hardware).

Now I use HP and I’m very happy. Mine works out of the box in Linux.
