Hardware change question

Guys,

I just fried my MOBO, and will be installing a new MOBO, CPU and RAM tomorrow. When I start up my new system with my old HDD with the openSUSE install, it will just recognize my new hardware and keep working right?

are you switching cpu architectures? i.e. from a 32 bit to 64 bit processor?

Yes, provided

  • the new board, CPU and RAM are supported

and unless

  • the CPU has a different architecture
  • the disk-by-id designator should change

and with consideration of

  • possible required reconfiguration of hardware elements such as
    ** NIC
    ** sound cards
    ** onboard video chips

No the old AMD Opteron 175 was 64-bit and so is this AMD Phenom.

The only other hardware change is I’m going to abandon my old sound card which was PCI and change to the on-board.

I’ll be using the same video card.
