I’m trying to do a net install of SUSE 11.0 on a new Dell OptiPlex 755. I verified md5sum of the iso and there were no errors reported while burning. I have also selected check medium from the installation menu and it reported that it was OK.
However, every time I try to install it hangs right after loading drivers and sending DHCP request to eth0. The next line says:
Loading Installation System (1/4) (1 kB) - 100%
And that is where it sits. Does anyone have any ideas why it might hang there or how to get it to carry on?
In the mean time, I’ll try a fresh download and burn, as well as trying the x64 install and will report if I have any luck.
Try updating your bios to the latest version if you have not already done so.
I’ve had a weird intermittent problems booting on an Optiplex 755 (using 10.3) that went away after the bios update. So best to check this first.
Mine sat there for several minutes, but not that long. It does the 1/4, 2/4, 3/4 thing for a couple minutes each… I’m not sure if it needs the network connection at that point or not. The little (1kb) messages doesn’t change, it always says 1k for me. Odd.
I am having the same problem with 11.1 and the x86_64 version.
I did not have the problem with the i586 version of 11.1.
I disconnected the network cable until the gui came back.
For some reason it was loading down network going out to the internet. I have consistent isp problems so I monitor my connection to the world and could see it trying.
