Had this isssue "Mozilla Firefox auf openSUSE Leap: sporadisches Einfrieren des System, nur Hardware-Reboot möglich" before — now, it's gone like it once came

Dear all,

I formerly had the thread open Mozilla Firefox auf openSUSE Leap: sporadisches Einfrieren des System, nur Hardware-Reboot möglich - Deutsch (German) / Anwendungen - openSUSE Forums.

It was closed after time without solution. I just want to let you know that it is “solved”: the issue had gone now like it came once before. Don’t know if Mozilla Firefox package related or kernel related at my system. Many things work at my system(-s). Not all, not always. But mostly. I generally use Mozilla Firefox to my very satisfaction. I just haveno idea what has happened i the meantime. I am glad, that it is pretty OK now.

@C7NhtpnK:

In your previous «long» Post on this issue, you’ve mentioned that, the keyboard and mouse were both frozen.

  • If, you have the SysRq feature enabled then –
    [Alt]+[SysRq]+[r]
should regain control of the system by means of the keyboard and mouse.

Looking at you inxi output, the BIOS date on your Mainboard is “12/21/2023” – the 23rd of December 2023 –

  • Are you certain that, no BIOS updates are available for your Mainboard?

The equivalent information for this machine is:

 # inxi -xxx --filter --machine
Machine:
Type: Desktop System: ASUS product: N/A v: N/A serial: N/A
Mobo: ASUSTeK model: PRIME B550-PLUS v: Rev X.0x serial: <filter>
    UEFI: American Megatrends v: 3621 date: 01/13/2025
 #

BIOS last updated on the 13th of January this year …

You’re using Xfce for your Desktop with LightDM as the Display Manager.

  • What happens if, you use the not so light-weight KDE Plasma as the Desktop with the absolutely horrible SDDM as the Display Manager?
  • Alternative number 2 – What happens if, you use the GNOME Desktop with GDM as the Display Manager?

I now have:

~> inxi -xxx --filter --machine
Machine:
Type: Desktop System: Gigabyte product: Z390 M GAMING v: N/A
    serial: <superuser required>
  Mobo: Gigabyte model: Z390 M GAMING-CF serial: <superuser required>
    uuid: <superuser required> UEFI: American Megatrends v: F11a
    date: 06/12/2025

And over all, I am very happy with it — except that it is not rootless! I would like to have a lightweight DM, i.e. LightDM, and very likely a rootless one, i.e. SDDM oder GDM. I tried SDDM and GDM once, but they’re really heavy. I am back with LightDM.

Currently, everything is fine. As already mentioned, the issue is gone like it once came. No need to change anything with respect to that issue.

I have been experiencing it a lot some time ago. But since some months, I am fine. No clue what’s the reason. Of course, many updates have passed since then.
