Gutenprint 5.2.1 released: Where are rpms?

Hi,
few days ago, the last stable version of gutenprint (vers. 5.2.1) was released.

I can’t find rpm, and I can’t compile them from the source (I can’t understand what packages include in my distribution to allow the compilation).

Is there anyone that know where to find the rpms, or better, can make a rpm package (describing all dependencies)?

Thanks to all.

The project site is Gutenprint Printer Drivers

I guess if the forums are around help and dialogue, I could reasonably ask: what is wrong with your existing install of gutenprint that you wish to install the latest;

are you happy using a terminal?

those that must have the very latest, may not find that they simultaneously have all the support and comfort that they wish to be built around them; (Confusius);

the files you wish are compressed and wrapped within a tarball;

you will have the skills to decompress and install;

firstly try this

Howto untar a tar file or gzip-bz2 tar file - Wikihowto: a howto site anyone can edit

the command is (in a terminal)

tar xvjf file-1.0.tar.bz2

then try this:

Compiling and installing software from source in Linux

it is like fixing a puncture on your car: you need to learn how to change the tyre

if you want the latest gutenprint, you will need to follow the steps in above description;

the other option is read the readme files, and decide if the features you want are really good;

SourceForge.net: Files

if you go ahead, come back for support as you need it

good luck

No, but my printer is supported since 5.1.7 and the newer rpm found is for gutenprint 5.0.x!

I know how to decompress a file and the generic procedure to install a new program.

My problem is to know what packages have to be installed on my system, to compile correctly the gutenprint package!

the gutenprint package should have all that is needed, within its compressed format;

when you initially decompress it, you will, if you issue the command

ls

see a directory called something like gutenprint

you then issue the command

cd guten*

and then you work within the gutenprint directory, that should contain all it needs, to configure, make and install the final package

is this helpful?

I was also looking for an updated guenprint rpm. The announcement of 5.2.1 indicates the support of a number of Canon printers that we currently use. I have a windows workstation whose main function is to support printers where the cups support was just not acceptable.

Take a look at this topic for compiling Gutenprint.
