Hey, prior to my P4 given up the ghost, I was playing Guild Wars and WoW running OpenSuSE 10.3 32 bit with out issue. I was running wine 1.1.12, and had downloaded 4 dll’s to get WoW working and setup Game/Registry/System to use OpenGL.
Now I have a AMD Dual Core 64 bit system, and I am running OpenSuSE 11.1 64 bit alone with wine 1.1.26, which is said to be supported with no issues.
Has anyone gotten this to work?

BTW: If I need to roll back to 11.1 32bit, or dual boot with OpenSuSE 10.3, that is an option I will consider.
I am running Suse 11.1 64bit/AMD 64x2 and using WoW and wine without a problem. Had to play around with the config file a bit to get the graphics running ok but I didn’t need to download anything extra. The only thing I had to do was copy WotLK from the disk to the hard drive before wine could install it since most of the files on that dvd are hidden.

Edit, Edit: I also use Icewm when I play WoW. KDE4.2.4 sometimes flashes some garbled colors onto the game briefly.
So far, no good. I ended up doing a clean install of SuSE 11.1 32bit and installed from RPM wine 1.1.26, which is said to work with out issues. Now I cant even get it to install for me. During the download of the 5000+ files, it stops and close the window.

What has 5,000+ files that needs to be downloaded?
The wine version I used was already in the repositories. I have the packman repository as well as the other ones.
I am using Wine version 1.1.9-1.11.1
Guild Wars during the install process. I download the client from web, and run which downloads the install files from internet.
Got Guild Wars to work. Used wine 1.1.9 and OpenSuSE 11.1 32bit. No problems. Just had to dual boot my machine. Now I am looking to see if I can split my machine into two to allow my 2 boys to each play a copy of Guild Wars at the same time.
I am interested in running 2 Keyboards, Mouse, & monitors and setup the machine with 2 login screens too allow 2 users to log in an play a copy of the game.

You know you described earlier how you re-installed.
You might want to do it again.

Unless of course you mean you are logged in as user and have started the game as root?
One thing you need to be aware of is,: If you mess things up you should delete it all in the hidden files section ./wine/drive_c/Program Files
FYI: In the future. Remember you can backup .wine and transfer it to a new install and it should just work. (You need the same username and dir structure as before) or of course you may not even format /home
Otherwise wine just works.
I find the best install method is from a terminal (I actually use dolphin with terminal panel) Navigate to the installer you have then do eg:
wine ./Setup.exe
(Where Setup.exe is the name of the installer)

I have the worst luck configuring users to have access. When I try to perform install and play from a standard user account, I get a “denied access to display” message. So I test/setup with root account, and then work on getting a normal user to perform properly. Linux needs a good way to create/configure a system user account that has rights to things such as Yast. I have yet to figure out how to create such an account. Setting the default group to wheel doesnt seem to do it.

All I can say John is, you must be missing something. I don’t use wine a great deal, I’m windows free really. But this last week I have had to install wine and several win apps on a number of computers and I have had no problem whatsoever - Even 3D graphics and all the directx rubbish just works, actually better than in windows itself.
Windows apps installed under wine do not need to be done as su.

Playing WoW since 2007 without any issues on opensuse. I get around 25 FPS what is pretty cool - on a laptop.
And of course running without root permissions.
