I downloaded a file with “tar.gz” extn. and after extracting it I got this file: install.crossover-pro-6.2.0.sh. How do I install this software. I am a newbie and a step by step and line by line commmand at KDE Konsole would be appreciated. Further I downloaded and appear to have installed nerolinux, but I do not see where it is available for execution. I want to delete it since Suse’s burning software (k3b)is available and I was told it is very good. Thanks in advance.
Open a terminal window. “cd” to the folder you extracted the crossover-installer, the execute:
su -c sh install.crossover-pro-6.2.0.sh
“su -c” takes care of running the command with root permissions
“sh install.crossover-pro-6.2.0.sh” starts the shell-script that installs crossover
How did you install Nerolinux. If you don’t know how to remove it, just leave it there, it’s not going to hurt other things, nor is it going to give back large amounts of diskspace.
And indeed, k3B is very, very good. IMHO it’s way “ahead” of Nero.
Thanks Sir for the help. I successfully installed the SW and it is OK. Can you give me some tutorial reference for the essential commands for the day to day tasks on the KDE Konsole?
There’s no such things as day to day tasks in the konsole. Almost everything can be done from the GUI
But…there are loads of docs about most used linux commands from the commandline

the best i know for learning command line stuff is:
http://rute.2038bug.com/
but as mentioned by another poster it is NOT normal to do a lot of day
to day stuff at the command line, any more…i mean if you want to
there is plenty to do that way…
but, there are more and more graphical ways to do things…a good
place to start learning that, if you wish is in the on board
documentation…just put this in a browser address line, and have a look:
file:///usr/share/doc/manual/opensuse-manual_en/manual/index.html
it is a fable that adding and removing software is a big deal in
linux…i mean, look at section three of that cite…

Sir,
The link “file:///usr/share/doc/manual/opensuse-manual_en/manual/index.html” went nowhere. The other link for tutorial PDF did not work but I downloaded html file, but it is “rute.html.tar.bz2” Kindly tell me how to install it and generally how do I install such zip files in GUI which is easier for me. Generally how to work thru GUI, i.e. Yast, to get to the downloaded softwares to install them. Thanks.

well, what version of openSUSE are you running?
and, did you elect to install the documentation?
is your system in english (see the “_en/” in the link, maybe yours
needs to be _de, i can’t read your mind)…use a browers open file
dialog to navigate to YOUR documentation, and then book mark it…

here on my machine, and everyone else i’ve ever sent there was able to
read
“The HTML on this web site is compressed with gzip. A web browser
which automatically decompresses these web pages is Mozilla. Note that
old version of Internet Explorer do not perform this action. Loading
will start in 5 seconds. Start”
and wait five seconds (or click Start) and then the html is
automatically opened for browse, are you using a modern browser?

that is all covered in the on hard disk documention, in chapter 3
pointed to previously…
and, in other places in the wiki…for example: see “4. Software
handling in openSUSE (Package Management)” in
http://en.opensuse.org/Concepts
or: http://en.opensuse.org/Yast
and ALL KINDS OF STUFF is available via
http://www.novell.com/documentation/opensuse110/opensuse110_startup/data/opensuse110_startup.html
and

and

and
http://forums.opensuse.org/search.php
and

no lack of documentation…

Sir, thanks very much for the detailed instructions. The html file I have book marked which I can read on the browser. I will leisurely go thru all your links and get back to you ASAP, it is now 10-45 pm in India.
The OS is in English. Somewhere I saw it was showing the language as “de” and there was no other language option to choose. I installed the OS from live CD, ver. 11.1. I have also downloaded the DVD version of 11.1 (4.33GB). Can I install the DVD version over this CD version? This OS was not giving sound and not playing music in the players initially. With a lot of discussions on this forum, I could get the sound to life.
Thanks again.
Sir,
To reply your points –
I am running OpenSUSE 11.1.
About electing to install the documentation – I do not know. Shall search for it.
The useful tutorials available on the links provided by you would keep me busy for another week and would surely make me wiser.
I once again thank you for the help and would get back to the forum sooner than later!
