GUI Won't Load in OpenSuSE 11.3

Today, I was downloading some stuff from online. I left for a few minutes and came back to find that someone had hit my loose power cord, causing the computer to restart.

When I completed the reboot (It always says “Insert system disk and press enter” after checking CD drives), and had it load OpenSuSE 11.3 Failsafe (Regular won’t work for me), it loaded into Teal (BASH, Command Prompt, Kommand, whatever you want to call it).

At first, I thought maybe I screwed up and told it to load into that. But, I tried again, and it did the same. I tried using Non-Failsafe, and got the same results.

I don’t know what caused it, but if you have an idea, please tell me in a way that I can do from Ubuntu CD Bootable (I am too lazy to constantly switch back and forth to be able to read comments on this post.) I am able to edit, add, or remove programs from the Linux partition, though.

Sorry if this seems kind of confusing.

I would ask, Do You install any special video drivers? For instance, I use the nVIDIA driver and if I do a kernel update, I must reload this driver. So, if you use such a driver you may need to reload it.

Second question is, Did you create a separate /Home partition for yourself? If you did, and you can’t get back into a GUI, you might consider reloading, but reusing the /Home area and not formatting it, thus retaining your settings.

Third Question, have you considered running yast as root. There is a Terminal version you could use to try and reload a desktop from. Just a few thoughts to consider.

Thank You,

Login as root in Failsafe console, type init 5 and post error messages here.

Sounds like you installed an OpenSuSe 11.3 LiveCD instead of a normal install or DVD.
I suggest because you need a system disk to boot.

You should be able to boot from the Ubuntu CD and make changes but we need more information before you change anything.
After you boot from your Ubuntu CD could you post the output here from

sudo fdisk -l
sudo mount
