Hi
This is the first time I have loaded a Linux distribution since 2000 and not had success. There is no GUI. The splash screen stops about three quarters of the way through (KDE) I can get a meaningful console with CTRL+ALT+F2. lspci shows that the nouveau driver is installed. I am really surprised by this outcome. Is there a “fixed” DVD image for 32 bit systems?
Install the NVIDIA driver should do the trick. You might want to be sure to get the right one for your card I don’t know the product number you listed so check with NVIDIA
If it is a new system it will be the GO3 flavor if not it may be a GO2. Or if very old a GO1
Well, the G01 driver does not work at all on 13.2, so it is not available…
According to GeForce 7 series - Wikipedia , the G72 has been used in the GeForce7 series, so the G02 driver should work.
To install the driver, select “Recovery Mode” in the boot menu (in “Advanced Options”), that should give you a useable graphical system at least.
See here for instructions on how to install the driver then: SDB:NVIDIA drivers - openSUSE Wiki
Or just add the nvidia repo in YaST->Software Repositories->Add->Community Repositories, and install the packages (nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-xxx according to your kernel, x11-video-nvidiaG02, nvidia-computeG02) with YaST->Software Management.
