try putting the libs back to their original configuration and see if
that helps…
or you could restore from the pre-change backup…
hmmmm…it might be possible to repair your system but not without
you providing more info, like:
-operating system and version
-desktop environment and version (if used)
-what specific libs were changed, and how [well, that would just be
to get you back to the original–like mentioned above, already]
you say you are new to Linux, WELCOME, from experience i can say that
it is often FAR easier to use the libs a particular version ships
with–rather than noticing that is a higher numbered version
available somewhere and doing a manual switcheroo…
those switches often result in a frown.
libs interact in sometimes strange and unknown (to me) ways and when
noticing that i have ‘only’ version 2.1.3 or SomeApp and on the shelf
at SomeApp.com they have 2.1.9, i have learned to fall back to my
personal Rule One:
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
and Rule n: Bigger numbers do not always mean better.
I have reinstalled opensuse to an older version of 11.3. But this doesnt solves the problem. But Set of errors did changed. Cant change the library i cant get my system to connect to internet even after changing the setting through yast. Command line runs fine. All libraries are working fine and they are in their respective directories. This is what i did while installing vlc following an error that i cant remember
To begin with, please use CODE tags around all your copied/pasted computer texts in a post. You get those tags using the # button in the toolbar of the post editor.
You are talking about openSUSE 11.3. Is that a typo?
Further I see repos from 12.2 and 12.3. You can not mix those.
And you still did not answer the question what version of openSUSE you are using. But reading the above I realy wonder if you know yourself.
Let’s see…
You added the 12.3 repos but named them 12.2 instead…
And if you didn’t do a zypper dup then you’re adding 12.3 packages to your 11.3 installation.
That’s a recipe for failure.
If you intend to stay with 11.3, then connect to the 11.3 Evergreen repos.
If you want 12.3 and this is a new install, then begin with 12.3 installable media.
Here is the whole story. I installed opensuse 11.3 from a disk that was given to me some month back. I upgraded it to 12.3 a month back using yast. Then few days back i tried to install vlc and typed the above mentioned commands. When i restarted my pc GUI doesnt load any more. Then i tried repairing from that opensuse 11.3 disk and it didnt help also
So you are saying that i did a big blunder and it cant be fixed.
If i reinstall the opensuse how can I protect the data like when you install in windows only the data in C is formatted or you just need to delete the windows folder. any suggestion except an external hardisk

Besides that, 12.3 a month ago was BETA, untested.

You can not repair what is possibly 12.3 by using the 11.3 install disk,
you break it!

If you are experienced, and you are not, you can attempt repair by
booting the 12.3 DVD and choosing “upgrade” instead of “install”.
Sometimes it works.

IF when you installed using a separate /home partition, then you can
install again telling the installation NOT to format that same /home
partition.
Otherwise, you have to make a backup of your data and restore it later.
Or make the backup in any case…
