I see posts by users listed like this:
palladium Guest
and other similar designations.
Who are those users and how do they post without being registered?
Are all posts by palladium from one individual user?

Hi
They are (like me) posting from an nntp client see the forum FAQ’s. In
this case the user doesn’t use their email account on the forum to
cross reference to the nntp cllient.

Your post shows up normally, not as a guest.
Have you got a link to the specific FAQ that deals with this? Couldn’t find it. Thanks.
OK, so that is the reason they show up as a guest?
What’s with the palladium name? Is that a specific user’s name? Or a catch-all for guests?
Thank you.

“palladium” is a temporary pseudonym for an individual using nntp to
access the forum…
see, folks who read/post to the forum via nntp have the choice of
either linking their nntp post to a web-forum account, or not…
those who do (like Malcolm) will not appear as ‘guest’…
since i do not associate my appearances via nntp with my web-forum
account, my posts here are automatically marked ‘guest’ by the forum
software…
by the way, anyone who wishes may visit here using nntp and sign their
posts as “palladium”…there is very little control over access via nntp…
FAQ at: http://forums.opensuse.org/faq.php?faq=novfor#faq_nntp
if you have other questions i’ll happy to try an answer–i find many
advantages in using nntp…
was there a particular reason for the inquisitiveness??

Thank you. I just read the faq.
Just wondering if it was one guy or multiple guys dissing me in other threads.
SUSE would be perfect if it used Debian Package Mangement - Page 4 - openSUSE Forums
Sorry can’t resist the temptation again. Take note that opensuse mascot (gecko) is a chameleon and has the ability to change colors.lol!

Thanks. No problem.
The web-based identity of palladium is DenverD. DD is a long-time member here who likes to “diss” other users. DD uses a dynamic nntp pseudonym drawn from the metal group of palladium, platinum, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium. His IP falls in a tight band issued by his ISP (icon top right of his posts).
I was going to thank you via reputation, but it says I have to spread some around before giving you more reputation. So I guess I need to find the faq on “reputation” next…
When you use the REP button for a user, you cannot use it again for the same user in close succession. I’m not sure what the details of that are, perhaps @kgroneman may know, he looks after that detail.
If you get help or good advice from a user it’s courtesy to use the REP button, not everyone notices it though.
a new contributor comes here with no understanding of what openSUSE is
about, ‘disses’ the entire community with “SUSE would be perfect if it
used Debian Package Mangement” and points to an almost two year old
article to ‘prove’ his point…and some respond cool smoothing words…
that is one approach…
i guess if folks wanna call my less candy coated way of redirecting
his ignorance “dissing”, then they may do that without angering me…
no problem…
when those who get their feelings hurt because they are too busy to
learn a little prior to popping off about how much better everything
else is…well…imo they need to do one of three things:
grow up/toughen up
investigate prior to passing judgment and dissing the entire community
just go ahead and use what they have decided is better and leave us
here in our ignorance…

Is ‘entering the room, shouting what you want, and then shutting the door again’ a sign of maturity? Come on… I have a 17 year old son…
Points have been made in another thread, cannot see this as something other than ‘dissing’. Be glad the rest of the world is not exactly like you; there’s the oppportunity to help others.
